A Tale of 2 Travelers

An overview of our adventures near and far…

Botanics & Beyond at the National Garden

There is so much to see at this indoor/outdoor multi-level space that it is hard to figure out where to begin. The colors, textures, and shapes are all so amazing. We arrived a little early, just prior to the opening hour so we explored outside while waiting for the doors to open.

Look up to see the pods above.
Look down to see the masterpieces crafted below.

Shades of Pink

A little pollinator hard at work.

I love the effects of the drops of water from the morning rain on all of the flowers.

Some orange & yellow

And a little splash of red

Life around the pond

The next section we headed to housed some intimate water features with winding footbridges to take you through each planted area.

The sounds of this babbling brook passing under the bridge enhanced the peaceful vibe offered by this serene landscape.

Time to head inside…

Some areas have a true greenhouse feel, complete with humid atmosphere and clear panes of glass overhead. Others areas, such as where the succulents grow, will feel more dry. Not to be missed are the exploration areas nestled in the adjoining outdoor garden spaces, where exhibits feature ideas to teach and inspire visitors how to grow their own at home.

Fruit Trees

Do we have any chocolate lovers?

Chocolate does grow on trees! Now if only we could find a tree that grew money to pay for the chocolate.

Along the way you’ll learn about all the different ways we can use these various types of plants.

Since I always prefer natural to artificial, I appreciated the information shared on this Over-the-Counter Remedies sign.

These signs usually found down below or within the planted area are equipped with a QR code. Visitors can use their phone to scan the code to learn more about the identified plant.

We love succulents and have some of these at home on our patio.

They have so many different types of orchids throughout all of the areas of the garden that it is hard to keep track of them all. Some planted, some hanging from the walls and trees, but all so beautiful.

The last area we went to on our way to the exit was one that showed what types of plants will thrive in your environment based on what area of the country you live in.

For those of us that are in palm tree laden areas, here’s some knowledge on how to put your coconuts to good use!

Thank you for letting me share our photos with you. I hope they added some enjoyment to your day. Comment below with your favorites. To keep this post “growing” – if you are growing anything at home, please feel free to share your successes in the comment section.
